The eastbound lanes of Interstate 90 were blocked for about three hours early Friday after a truck and trailer rolled over.

Traffic was detoured through Exit 84 until the scene was cleared about 7:10 a.m.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Sukhdeep Sidhu, 32, of Surrey, British Columbia, was passing another vehicle when he lost control, rolling the semi. The tractor-trailer combination came to rest in the roadway.

Sidhu was not hurt.

State troopers blamed the crash on inattention and said they expected to issue Sidhu a ticket.

He was wearing a seat belt; intoxicants were not suspected, according to a news release from the State Patrol.

Traffic in parts of Lackawanna and Luzerne counties was a mess most of Tuesday after a tractor-trailer crash on Interstate 81 south.

The crash happened between the Avoca/Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Airport exit (178) and the Pittston/Dupont exit (175). The truck driver swerved off the road, hitting a retaining wall just before a construction zone. He was not hurt.

Traffic was backed up for miles. PennDOT said northbound traffic was also slow also because of rubbernecking.

Traffic coming down I-81 was told to detour off of the interstate at the Davis Street exit (182) causing back ups along Davis Street in Moosic and other side roads in Lackawanna County.

A family from New York said they were headed to Ohio for Thanksgiving knowing Wednesday would be the busiest travel day. They were hoping to get ahead of the traffic by leaving today.

"So we thought, okay, we're in the clear, we're good, we were cruising right along and then all of a sudden, we figured there was an accident or road work, but that's alright, we're taking it with stride," said Marcia Brant of New York.

I-81 opened about 4 p.m. but it took a while for the backup to clear.
